Do you know how I can get in contact with Hasnain Sengge Thsering? Al-Zaidi (talk) 00:47, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What's with the obsession with someone's private life/false rumors? The reason Wikipedia has a bad rep for pushing falsehoods is because of people like you, who insist on repeatedly posting false information/old, dead rumors. You didn't even get his family's names right.

I'd be glad to meet and talk to you in person; we're neighbors. Until you get real, factual information, please quit posting the Weekly World News bullshit on the BYJ page. Taking lies off the page, by the way, is NOT vandalism. == Fabshelly 06:43, 20 June 2006 (UTC)fabshelly[reply]

Talk:Zanskar ==

You are quite a character, aren't you? By the way, from what I know, grammar and spelling skills don't "change from time to time", unless you get brain damage. And I truly don't think my knowledge is outdated. Are you sure you're as good an English speaker as you claim to be? ;p

No, I don't intend to interfere with your Zanskar article, and never did. Still, thanks for dropping by. Igor the Lion(Roar!) 16:44, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did voice out that I did not want to pursue this, but as you seem all too eager to drag me into your dilemma, then so be it. First of all, I made no reference whatsoever to your "gallery incident," and have had no desire to. In my comment on Talk:Zanskar, I was alluding to your atrocious grammar, your incompetence in English, and some of your poetic, yet sadly, erroneous "facts" shown by Moumine in one of the sections. As you want me to comment on your most recent actions, though, I will no longer hesitate to state my opinions. What I think, nay, know, is that you, Mr. Tan, have been inserting factual errors that seem to have been based on nothing more than information given in tourist brochures, have been lowering the standards of the said article each and every time you decided to edit it, and that you have, up to this day, refused to accept any reprimand or comment on your terrible behavior (and note, you have done this numerous times in the past - so often, I believe, that you even had an RfC regarding those matters). You suggest that Moumine thinks he owns the article. NO, Mr Tan. I believe it is you who thinks he owns the article. Your vehement refusal of criticism and nonsense edits attest to this. You have repeatedly attempted to impose your abhorrent manner of English upon the poor article, and that your view of yourself is so BlOwn uP that you refuse to accept the fact that your mastery of English cannot even be called mastery. You have taken the language of Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Dickens, and all the great writers of old, and have mangled it, turned it into an abomination that only you can understand. I take your persistence in believing that yours is the "right" English as an insult to me and to my fellow speakers. Also, you have been entirely inconsiderate of your fellow editors, ordering them to answer your questions without thinking that they could possibly be on holiday, be busy, have left the matter a long time ago, or simply not have read your message. You should have thought of those things. But no, the heck with their feelings! I, Mr Tan, care only about myself, and my self-esteem, and I don't give a damn about what those people are doing, all I know is that they didn't answer me, so they are being inconsiderate. If that isn't inconsiderate, Mr Tan, I don't know what is.
Still, I find it quite amusing, your persistence, that is, in refusing to understand the points of others and enforcing your own, and your refusal to improve your comprehension and writing skills. I am not suggesting that all your edits are bad. Indeed, you have contributed a fair amount to Wikipedia, let us not forget that. But your attitude in debating has to be improved, as well as your writing skills and your English. Looking forward to hearing from you soon - Igor the Lion(Roar!) 17:16, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have a feeling that you didn't grasp what I was saying, or at least didn't read the whole thing through. Anyway, I'll explain the whole thing to you in simple terms. I was not referring to the past, though I did make some references. Most of my commentary was focused on your current attitude, which imo has changed only very slightly since when you worked on Zanskar. I never tried to bring up the past. If, as you say, your grammar is good, you'd have noticed the "have been"s in the above text. I suppose you already know that this pertains to the present rather than the past. If not, well, we all learn new things every day. And, again regarding your English, you cannot expect me to believe that you are writing on a professional level if your language is sophomoric and if you insist that there is "nothing on your English." Of course there is nothing on it. It is not a table. Maybe you mean "nothing wrong with your English." Many more examples lie in your texts.
Regarding the gallery, I also think it is unnecessary for the article. It stands quite well on its own, even without your gallery. If you want to add some pics, do so by all means. If you want to reorganize the existing pictures into some sort of gallery, then that is only a waste of time, and may be contrary to the ideas of the original authors. Do what you wish.
And as for Moumine being "inconsiderate", I think you yourself are being inconsiderate. Perhaps you haven't thought of the possibility that Moumine hasn't logged in since December 17? Apparently, you haven't, and apparently, even if you did, you'd still think that it was because of this deep-seated grudge that Moumine was holding against you. Why not resolve to be a bit less, say, self-centered or egotistic and paranoid this New Year? It might help out a bit, you know. Igor the Lion(Roar!) 14:53, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your "emotional agony" is all useless. Why not check this link here and see for yourself that the last time Moumine logged in was on December 17, 2005? (At the time of writing, Moumine has already logged in and left a message on Talk:Zanskar regarding the gallery thing, which I agree with totally) By the same token, maybe I should hold a grudge against you because you didn't answer a message I posted some days ago until three days had passed.
It is true that admins will never create tools that would worsen the state of Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean they should use these tools whenever they feel like it. Imagine if they blocked every user on Wikipedia. How would you like that? The issue here is not the tool, but what you do with it, a point that I have been trying to get across in vain.
And finally, you have to improve your English because I have a hard time understanding you sometimes. Igor the Lion(Roar!) 11:50, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I left a comment at Talk:Zanskar, which I believe can also suffice as a reply to your earlier message. Though there is some sarcasm in the message, on the whole it is as neutral as I could get it.
Again, I do not wish to involve myself any further in your dispute with Moumine. Igor the Lion(Roar!) 19:58, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(personal information concerning FabShelly removed).

I apologise that I haven't been able to reply to your previous comment, or take any action on the above article. Have been really busy at work lately since the start of the year and will continue to be busy till perhaps end of next week. Will take action as soon as I possibly can. --Fauzi 17:06, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Cjw.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Cjw.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --OrphanBot 10:24, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt the flyover was the N-S Expressway, but rather the highway leading to Pasir Gudang.

You're pretty much right about this. I actually have more photos to upload, but I'm doing it in stages since I actually lack the actual time to do so.

I was quite surprised when you removed the hidden comment. Yes, the article is on only Mr Rajaratnam himself, but anyone who is not familiar with adding a footnote using the <ref> ... </ref> tags may be confused when trying to add a footnote into the article, as the text of the footnotes are not in the "References" section.

Hence I inserted the hidden comment so anyone not familiar with the new system could read up on how to add a footnote. The note is intended for reading only by someone who wants to add a footnote, and it does not make the remaining text of the article less important.

Hidden comments to other editors of an article about technical matters related to editing the article are quite common. Some examples are:

Tsushima islands?

[edit]

Received your message, and I thank you for your inputs. I understand that this problem may raise some dispute between Korean and Japanese editors in Wikipedia, so this matter should be treated with prudence =). Sources can probably be found, and they should not pose TOO much problem even if they are in Korean, provided that it's not original research (an official gov't response would be okay I guess, or articles from English Korean newspapers like Korean Herald or English Chosun Ilbo should be okay too). I'll try to look for sources if I have time, but I, too, have exams and can't spend much time on Wikipedia. Anyway, take care.

P.S: Your exams end in May 10th? Are you taking AP Exams by any chance? Deiaemeth 04:39, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Tan and Deiaemeth, is it funny to add oil to flame? Korean nationalistic activity encourages Japanese ultranationalists. vice versa. Continuing such a claim each other can bring situation like Israel and Parestina, or balkans, or everywhere in the world, I'm really afraid of that. I was friendly to Korea, but it is growing to be difficult to keep such a feeling these days. You are making enemey among ordinary people in Japan. Isorhiza 12:27, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for romanizations of Jin Hi Kim. However, why does it say "Jin Hui" when she spells her name "Jin Hi"? Is the hangul correct? Badagnani 04:27, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did do that, even searching with hangul for only "Kim Jin" but she doesn't seem to appear on any Korean websites. She is, to my mind, an internationally renowned exponent of new music for the Korean komungo but seems not to have much coverage in the Korean language. I know her personally and know that she does want her work to be better known in Korea. Maybe I'll just have to ask her (I can get the hanja as well while I'm at it). Badagnani 04:37, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't know about Yahoo! Korea; I thought Google would collect everything necessary. In any case, we'd probably never be able to find her hanja via the Web, especially if they're unusual ones. I just wrote to her to ask. Which other essential data did you have in mind? I think we have most everything else important. Badagnani 05:00, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chinese Singaporean.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. Unspecified source for Image:Lky.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lky.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Christian population

[edit]

AFAIK,24 + 6 families of any religion is not notable enough to be included in an encyclpedic article.Bharatveer 09:52, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mr.tan, pls dont try to confuse the issue. The article in question is Leh.So your assertions in this case are wrong. I am sure 24 families will not form 2 % of the leh's population. Bharatveer 13:26, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mr,Tan Pls note that WP:N is for creation of articles and not for inclusion of POV sentences in an article. For Your Information, See Population_figures.Christians form only 0.23%. Bharatveer 04:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think i have explained my reasons very cearly. Mention of 24 + 6 families is clearly a POV (when they form only 0.23%)which is already mentioned . Your arguments that they form the High castes looks laughable.Bharatveer 09:21, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mr.Tan, Be CIVIL.Whatever you say will not change the fact that it is POV. I cannot understand why you are so insistent in including 24 + 6 families here. Bharatveer 11:58, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When the population figures of christian community is already there, there is no need for a seperate paragraph to mention the Number of 24 + 6 christian families again. It does not matter how HIGH their caste might be .Bharatveer 12:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The question of violation of wiki policy about verifiability does not arise in this context. This is just a case of POV pushing. It has to be seen in that perspective. You may think those 30 families are of VERY HIGH CASTE. But that is entirely your POV and it should not have any place in an encyclopedic article .Bharatveer 13:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mr.Tan, You are just repeating yourself on the verifiablity issue. My question is why do you need to include 24 + 6 families in this article. Is it just because that they happen to be christians.

That section will have to go because it is POV unless you include the number of families of all other communities.Bharatveer 09:13, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bharatveer please calm down. Mr Tan I believe, is merely trying to show how missionaries are attacking traditional Ladakhi culture. The third source he placed is well-written.Bakaman Bakatalk
I think that the fact that there are missionairy schools in a remote mountain hamlet is notable enough. Please find a source for the "high-caste" assertion as I did not see evidence of it anywhere.Bakaman Bakatalk 16:31, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Tcl.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tcl.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 13:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I need your help. I am a new member of wikipeida. I find the article of "Tibet" or "history of tibet" in wikipeida is very biased towards pro-independent Tibetans. You can find my deleted versions in the history of that topic. The main source of my information is in the following. This is probably the most complete and detailed information source on the Tibet issue. But it is not listed in the reference list of Tibet page yet. I remember the content of this website is from Chinese government’s white paper on Tibet issue. If you go to the official website of Tibetan in exiles, you will find that although they are very unhappy with these information. They could not point out any major problems about these facts. FYI, we have had to blacklist links to the forums section of The Nation's web site due to persistent spamming of links to certain posts there; see:

You have a nationmultimedia.com/qvote link on your user page which will be affected by this. You can remove the link, disable it (by putting a space after the "http://") or just live with it until you need to edit your user page.

I'm sorry to inflict this collateral damage on you but this spammer was getting very disruptive. Blocking and semi-protection were ineffectual since he was using multiple IPs and hitting a range of articles with his links and odd rants. --A. B. (talk) 00:23, 30 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:WSN.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:WSN.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi Mr Tan. Regarding the above u replaced the source i provided regarding his background with another source. The source i got is from his biography and it states that Jules Stephens was born in Sabah to a New Zealander dad and Kadazan mum. Which makes Jules a Sabahan, right? It was never mentioned in the book that Jules was an Australian. Jules' wife (Tun Fuad's mum) is eurasian with an uncertain mixture of possibly Kadazan and/or Japanese background. These were all contained in the book. Can we reconcile these sources? ќמшמφטтгמtorque 03:16, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. There seems to be more reliable sources stating that Fuad is of part Australian part Kadazan. Maybe we'll keep it that way for now. I couldnt find the book in googlebooks. But theres some results here: [3] Like i said the book says that Jules dad is from NZ and mum a Kadazan, but the author herself admitted that she could not verify the ethnicity of Fuad's mother (which she speculated to be part caucasian and either part japanese of kadazan. I'll check again with the book. Thanks. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 04:03, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I checked the book and thought u might be interested to know what the author said about Fuad's family background. Unfortunately the result is inconclusive, so maybe we just leave the article as it is for the time being. Jules' father is Ernest Pavitt from NZ, and his mother is Kwai, a kadazan. Fuad's mother is Edith Cope. She definitely looks eurasian from the photos in te book. But the author was not so sure about her exact parentage. Here are some excerpts from page 35:

For a long time it was thought that Edith was actually Kadazan....As a baby, she was named Edith by one Henry William Cope (Englishman), who either fathered her or adopted her.

Edith's precise parentage is uncertain, but she was supposedly a product of many such mixed unions in the North Borneo of that era. Edith's mother was a Japanese lady (a comfort women from a timber ship which called at Sandakan) who hailed from Nagasaki.

Fuad and his brother tried pinpoint the name of their grandmother but records were destroyed following nagasaki bombings. Apparently Henry Cope "purchased" Edith's mother off a timber ship.

So if PJ Granville's suspicion was correct, Fuad would have been 1/4 English, 1/4 Kadazan, 1/4 NZ, 1/4 Japanese. ќמшמφטтгמtorque 08:22, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image permission problem with Image:Dongba_Shaman.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Dongba_Shaman.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 09:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RfA question

[edit]

You have a new RfA question from me. John Sloan (view / chat) 19:18, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your recently closed RFA

[edit]

I too would have opposed for similar reasons as the others. Your asking to be an RFA is kind of like an employee who has never taken any business-management classes or any of the in-house management-training seminars or even hanging around managers at the water cooler applying for a position in management. It's like "Oh, it's nice that you want to be a manager, and you seem like an okay guy who might make a good manager, but you simply have no visible track record in making management-type decisions. I hope to see you at next week's training seminar where we will be doing mock management scenarios just like we do every week. Please join us managers for beer on Fridays at the local pub where we discuss some of our more difficult decisions. But as for getting that corner office? Not until we are comfortable that you've got what it takes to be a manager." Now, management != adminship, but I hope you can see the parallels. If you are serious about adminship, hang out where admins hang out for a few months, make comments that show you know policy and guidelines and can recognize the rare occasions when ignoring all rules is the way to go, be welcoming to new editors, especially those who make good-faith mistakes, and otherwise do the things that admins do besides actually deleting articles and blocking disruptive editors. If you do that for a few months, you'll enjoy widespread support at your next RFA. In any case though, I recommend ignoring the "3 month rule" in favor of at least a 6 month delay. 3 months will get people thinking you are power-hungry, which I assume you are not. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 02:41, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Johor Royalty

[edit]

"his bad temper and frequent abuses were the main reasons..."

Hi Mr Tan,

I was the anonymous user who added the above phrase in the article on Johor's Sultan Iskandar. The reason why I added it is because I felt that there is a likelihood of truth for the divorce of Sultan Iskandar and Josephine Trevorrow. If you feel that the above phrase is libellous you may have it removed.

By the way, I would like to thank and salute you for the nice work done on the Johor royalty. I wonder where did you obtain all the information?

I would be grateful if you could find information or articles on the past abuses of Sultan Ibrahim and highlight it in the article. This would be rather difficult as it happened such a long time ago. Perhaps, you could find some archival newspaper articles written by Dato Onn titled "Tyranny in Johore" where he exposed the misdeeds of the ruler especially in the ill treatment of the JMF personnel. He was banished from the state as a result and it was quite a long time before Sultan Ibrahim forgave him.

60.50.228.148 (talk) 01:38, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is not exactly about the issue of libellous--in wikipedia, wikipedia requires information to stick to accountability to any contributions to the information contributed on articles. This is essentially wikipedia policies and guidelines (Wikipedia:Citing_sources and Wikipedia:Verifiability) as editors we will have to abide. For my part, I checked the sources [4] and [5] there was no mention of his bad temper leading to his divorce--as far as what I could interpret from my limited Danish. As an established member of wikipedia, I thank you for raising the point that it was only a likehood. I admit--I did know about past rumours of the "slapping incident" in 1978 when his mother, the Sultanah was fatally injured in a car accident in northern Johor, but being rumours--which cannot be backed by newspaper or academic sources, however tempting it would be against wikipedia guidelines to add on--the countervandalism unit would usually not have the tendency to reason out these edits, as many of them are not necessarily familiar with Malaysian politics.
My advise is that, if you might want to contribute, try to obtain citations as per guidelines which were mandated in order for you to establish credbility. You may also want to establish a new account--may be visit here Wikipedia:Tutorial (Registration)? A user's establishment will certainly do much to help you in editing in wikipedia in the long run. You might want to consider.

Cheers! Mr Tan (talk) 12:30, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I would like to thank and salute you for the nice work done on the Johor royalty. I wonder how did you manage to obtain all the information?

It would be interesting if you could find information or articles on the past abuses and controversies of the late Sultan Ibrahim and highlight it in the article as there were rumors among the older Johoreans that he was yet another tyrannical ruler like his grandson, Sultan Iskandar. This would be rather difficult as it happened such a long time ago. Perhaps, you could find some archival newspaper articles written by Dato Onn titled Tyranny in Johore where he exposed the misdeeds of the ruler especially in the ill treatment of the JMF personnel. He was banished from the state around 1927 as a result and it was quite a long time before Sultan Ibrahim forgave him. 118.100.108.50 (talk) 08:49, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...interesting fact, but Ive never heard of it before.

Let me elaborate how I find my facts: A combination of amateur research in my local library and Google books, whereby you can lift off phrases of books by googling phrases which you might think off. On your part, perhaps you can say ["Dato Onn" tyranny] in the google search box in Google books, and see if you can see any research material into it. As for me, I would give it a try, but I cant possibly commit to your requests.

However, if you might be interested in contributing, while such astounding facts might be interesting to contribute, nevertheless all ediotrs, whatever their sentiments and affiliations, must have a Wikipedia:NPOV neutral and objective viewpoint. Any sources that may be contributed, should usually conform to Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Citing sources. There are many more policies and guidelines in wikipedia, but these are some which I find it useful. As you can see in Sultan iskandar's article--just because he committed notorious deeds, it does not mean that we should be outright labelling him as a "gangster" or "murderer", unless if there are outright facts--of course, we cannot quote from trivia websites or blogspots--it would only violate the policies and guidelines. If possible, try to balance it off with the brighter side of a person, for reasons of Wikipedia:NPOV neutrality--after all, Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons#Basic_human_dignity, right?

Anyway, I see if I have the time I will see to your request--but take note of my advice when editing, for the Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit would blatantly revert edits--which is unpleasant, partly given that many do not have good knowledge of local affairs such as Johor. Have fun! Mr Tan (talk) 12:54, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suffering from intermittent autoblocks over the past few days. This includes my activities in wikimedia commons and a few other wikipedia language projects which I am in. Need admin to help solve problem; I have not engaged in revert wars for at least a few years. Mr Tan (talk) 07:19, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've done a IP block exemption (as a temporary solution). You will need to contact unblock-en-l@lists.wikimedia.org immediately and explain the autoblocks so they can sort the issue. Cheers, Nja247 08:28, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am reviewing Kangchu system for GA. (See Talk:Kangchu system/GA1.) I extensively copy edited it, mostly for prose issues. However, I wish you would check the article and make sure that I did not introduce any errors. I have not formally evaluated the article yet, although I feel it is of GA quality. Once you look through the article for errors, I will complete the GA evaluation. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments. First I wanted to thank you for all the great DYKs you have provided recently. This nom just needs a cite after the hook in the header. Would do it myself; however, since they are offline I can't. Article would normally not need one, but the DYK rules state that it needs to be after the hook and not the end of the paragraph. Otherwise its good to go. Hello Mr Tan! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Karanacs (talk) 03:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
  3. If you are still blocked, copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "IP blocked?" section. This is usually hidden within the "What do I do now?" section. If so, just click the "[show]" link to the right hand side to show this text.
  4. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page and click save.

If you are not blocked from editing the sandbox then the autoblock on your IP address has already expired and you can resume editing.  Sandstein  06:00, 17 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.

Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.

Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.

Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).

I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. UltraExactZZ Said ~ Did 16:02, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Slap.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Meet-up: Editors from Malaysia

[edit]

Hello! You might or might not have seen me around here as I've not been active in Wikipedia the past few months. Before leaving for NS, it was my intention to form a Malaysian user group. I'm still very much interested in forming the group. However, before forming the group, I would love to organize a meet-up between editors of the Malaysian editing community to test the waters and hear what you guys might have to say. To my knowledge, there has not been a Wikipedia meet-up in this country before. I don't mind organizing the meet-up but need to know if anyone is interested in joining the meet-up. So... please reply and let me know if you would be interested in joining a meet-up and your ideas/thoughts about a user group. Thank you.

Looking forward to hearing from you, Bejinhantalks 12:25, 15 December 2012 (UTC) (Message delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) 12:25, 15 December 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Re: Meet-up: Editors from Malaysia

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your response. I'm currently planning an online meet-up. I think we should get to know each other first before having a proper meet-up. I agree that logistics would be an issue. I was told that it might be possible for me to obtain sponsors. It would greatly help with transportation and other costs if we have sponsors. Of course, all this will only come about if we have something concrete, like a user group. My main goal right now is to organize the online meet-up. Any help would be appreciated. Just leave a message if you have any other questions/concerns. Bejinhan talks 12:20, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Keep me updated, write in to me if you may need help. I"ll see if I can chip in :D Mr Tan (talk) 11:52, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thank you for participating in WikiProject Malaysia! As per my previous message and the responses made, I'm organizing an informal Skype conference call on February 5th, 20:00 - 21:30 (Malaysian time). I'd love for you to join this chat. If you do not have a Skype but wish to join the chat, let me know and I'll try to work something out. iFurther details can be found at the Meetups page. Hi Mr. Tan! Thank you for your interest in joining the chat tomorrow. I appreciate it as it's difficult garnering support to activate some sort of meetup for Malaysian Wikipedians. Do you have a Skype? If you can join in tomorrow, please add me on Skype and I'll add you to the call. My Skype username is bejinhan. Or you can let me know your Skype username and I'll add you in. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Curly Turkey -- Curly Turkey (talk) 12:01, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Tan, I have reverted your attempt to reopen this nomination after it was failed by Curly Turkey. I realize this is disappointing, but once the nomination has been failed, that particular nomination is over; the nominator may not request a second opinion. (Second opinion requests are only for the reviewer to make.)

According to the Good Article nomination instructions on WP:GAN/I, number 5 in the Nominating section, If you believe that you did not receive an adequate review, you may renominate the article immediately or ask to have the article reassessed. You can also post a query on the GAN talk page, or you could request a peer review for suggestions on improving the article prior to renominating it at GAN. Best of luck going forward.

Incidentally, when you do make future GA nominations, please be sure to follow the WP:GAN/I instructions, in particular Step 2. Please let the GAN template create the GA nominee template for you; do not make your own GA nominee template, as yours have thus far needed to be fixed. Many thanks. Good evening Mr Tan, I'm Spring Roll Conan from Chinese Wikipedia and now I am trying to translate the article above. Don't worry, I'm not for GA review (indeed I still struggle to understand how does it work), but for a few issues in the aforementioned article:

  1. In the introduction I see (Khmer: យួន, Yuon). I think it is similar to Kong Tsan (港燦, derived from an earlier term Ah Tsan, which refers to Mainland Chinese. Used first by Hong Kong people to refer themselves, probably started when they faced cultural shock in Canada while they was migrating to there in 1990s; later used as a derogatory term by Mainland Chinese to refer to HK people), and not being appropriate to describe them as a whole. What do you think on this?
  2. "Until recent years" sounds vague. I will simply change it to "In 1960s", or can you tell me when do they cease to become the largest minority of Cambodia?
  3. Regarding the section "Economy", most sentences of the first paragraph lack refs (though I understand it's not necessary to tag refs on every sentences). Just want to know if Willmott (1967), p. 34 and Corfield (2009), p. 21 are used as sole references for the paragraph.
  4. "the incident became a major focus in electoral campaigns by the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) for the 2013 general elections. CNRP leaders also stoked claims on historical ties of Kampuchea Krom, and led to more anti-Vietnamese sentiments among CNRP supporter." I had a look on related refs, but I can't find where does it come from, especially about CNRP's claims on historical ties of Kampuchea Krom.

Feel free to reply here, hope this won't bother you. Should I have any further questions, I'll be pleased if you can make replies. Cheers, --Spring Roll Conan ( Talk · Contributions ) 15:01, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Buppha Devi

[edit]

Hi Mr Tan, Regarding a recent minor edit you made to the Buppha Devi article, I would like to point out that I disagree with it and feel that it should be tweaked at least. Buppha Devi isn't a prima ballerina in the traditional Western sense. She was a prima ballerina of the Cambodian royal ballet, but this isn't a Western ballet. The Wiki project cannot assess this properly because it is out of their grasp, culturally. If anything, you might want to nominate Sihamoni's article to WikiProject Ballet. Sihamoni was an actual dancer of Western ballet. --Dara (talk) 18:21, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! I've been doing a close reading of the article, I'm only about half way through it, but it's looking very good so far. It's a really long article, I hadn't realized how long it actually is. Now, to the reason for my note tonight: I have a suggestion I'd like to run by you, but I didn't want to leave it on the "official" Peer Review page because I don't want you to feel obligated to do anything about it. It's just something I noticed and am interested in your opinion.

Starting with the Co-premiership (1993-1997) section, there are a lot of details about the petty maneuvering between Ranariddh and Hun Sen (e.g. the Ariston contract, the verbal barbs, the logging contracts, various meetings and declarations, etc) but there is no straightforward explanation about why the two were always at odds. For people like you and I who closely follow/study Cambodian politics, all of our background provides context, but for an average reader, they're probably left wondering why those two couldn't make it work. The way it reads now, to the average reader, is that Ranariddh was simply jealous because his party won the election, he was first PM, but Hun Sen and the CPP had all the power. But we know their differences run much deeper than simple jealousy--their conflict was rooted in fundamental differences in ideology and vision for the future of Cambodia, differences that go back all the way to the 1970s Civil War. Ranariddh was a royalist while Hun Sen was Khmer Rouge. Ranariddh was loyal to his father while Hun Sen was installed by Vietnam and remained partial to Vietnam even after 1993. I think the reader would benefit from fewer details about how they disagreed and more explaining why they disagreed. I think that would help readers understand why the 1997 coup/power grab was inevitable--it was a clash of ideology/vision more than a clash of personalities.

I know it's easy to make observations like that, but it is not so easy to figure out what to do about it. What do you think?

Also, there is so much that can be written and so many sources readily available, I think some subsections should eventually be forked off into their own article where background and details could be explained more fully without worrying about article length. However, I don't want to interfere with your plans and since you plan to nominate the article for FA next month, it would be best to consider that after the FA process is completed, as such a major overhaul of the structure would significantly delay your nomination timetable.--William Thweatt TalkContribs 07:10, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi William, it is nice to hear about your thoughts about Ranariddh's article.
No, I disagree that the main cause of the conflict was "fundamental differences in ideology" and "vision for the future". I agree that this is one of the side reasons, but I don't think that's the main reason based on the books and articles that I have read. I do not think that it is correct to generalise the conflict due to their differing political parties. I think the main reason was the perceived imbalance of power between the two competing premiers that led to the 1997 coup. As I have outlined in the 1996 FUNCINPEC congress, Ranariddh had complained about the "power sharing" issue and that contributed to the deterioration in relations and conflict. As I noted, the conflict ultimately became a military clash, but there are several key events that happened in between, which reflects the deterioration of their working relations. It is with this idea in mind that I crafted the content accordingly. I would recommend you to read Widyono's book from page 211 onwards - section "A Puppet Prime Minister?" for your understanding. There is a limited preview at [7], though it would be good if you can read it full. If you ask as to "Why" the conflict took place, I think the question of "Why the conflict took place" is sufficiently explained, of which Ranariddh's dissatisfaction of his "puppet" position answers this point.
I can't see how more explanations maybe made - too much of it would amount to providing background information, which I think is not necessary. I have seen some articles with a "background" section and I do not agree with this - uninformed readers would turn to the parent or other relevant article for additional clarification. Furthermore, if there are excess "background information", I think the focus of the article would be compromised and in turn, its overall quality. Explanations can easily appear like commentaries and opinions if not crafted carefully, and as a result of this, there is a great risk of slipping into bias-ness, which in turn compromise Wikipedia:NPOV. Also, Wikipedia is an Encyclopedia, rather than a forum for Political commentary or research. I think, at least for biographical articles objectivity should be prioritized. Because explanations are more of a "subjective" nature, and it would be more suitable for event-based articles such as Assassination of John F. Kennedy. There is something called Wikipedia:Content forking, which I think is relevant to our concerns.
The article currently stands at about 80kb. I understand that there is Wikipedia:Article_size#Size_guideline, but I have been monitoring the FAC process and so long as the stature of the personality maybe justified, I don't think we have to worry about being disqualified based on length alone. For instance, Mortimer Wheeler was recently passed in Sep this year @ 100kB, Hollywood actor Rod Steiger at 120kB - passed in Oct 2015, and Barack Obama is at 270kB, but still an FA! I think, given Ranariddh's stature as a former PM and key political leader in Cambodia's history, the present length should not be an issue. Unless you talk something about people who are marginally notable like Im Chhun Lim or Norodom Yuvaneath for example, and his article is 100kB, then I think there would be a justification issue.
I am aware that Ranariddh's Prime Minister is somewhat longer than other sections, but I think this is justifiable. Firstly, attaining the post of PM usually represents the pinnacle of a person's career and news reports usually mention the PM, or President whenever political developments happen in the country. Secondly, my impression is that whenever Ranariddh's name is mentioned, I can say that about 50% +/- of resources that I have come across so far, would not miss emphasizing his role in Cambodian politics in 1993, the coup in 1997 and 1998. You may want to do a simple litmus test on AP's website on Youtube: Just type "Ranariddh" at [8] and most of the footages attribute mention to him during the 1990s. Hence while the PM section is significantly longer, I feel that it is justifiable as per Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view#Due_and_undue_weight. Similarly, consider Ronald_Reagan's (an FA as well) Presidency to other aspects or periods of his political or professional life.
I am aware that between different editors, we each may have different thoughts about what constitutes sufficiently "comprehensive", "neutral", article at the "right size" and so on. But if we lets say, emphasise on the "right size" of the article, then the "comprehensiveness" and neutrality can become compromised consequently. I was actually thinking along the line that if insufficient details are not included, other editors may try to blame us for not being "comprehensive", or any other reasons that might appear by justifying at Wikipedia:Featured article criteria. There was a very unfortunate FAC which you might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Man Down (song)/archive2. I think, whatever we put into the article, it should concern Ranariddh's life directly since this is a Biographical article. If you have ideas on how to reduce the text size without compromising the quality of the message that is put across, I will be the most welcome to listen to your proposal :) Mr Tan (talk) 14:55, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:MAJ cropped.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:MAJ cropped.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:08, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
